The former Ajax and current Netherlands boss believes that the Dutch striker’s move to Sir Alex Ferguson ranks from Arsenal will be valuable for the game in Netherlands. head coach, Louis van Gaal, has expressed his pleasure at Robin van Persie’s move to Manchester United from Arsenal. The Red Devils have reportedly paid 24 million Pounds to the Gunners in order to acquire the services of the prolific striker,
who underwent a medical at Bridgewater Hospital on Thursday, August 16.
Van Gaal, who benched the former Feyenoord Rotterdam striker in his side 4-2 loss against Belgium in an international friendly, has revealed that the 29-year-old’s move to Old Trafford is fantastic for Dutch football.
“Robin's transfer to Manchester United is fantastic not just for himself, but for Dutch football in general, too. Robin followed his heart in this matter”, Van Gaal was quoted as saying by Algemeen Dagblad.
The Dutch ace, who started his professional career at Feyenoord in the 2001/02 season, arrived at Emirates in the summer of 2004 after spending three seasons at De Kuip Stadion. The Dutch hit-man netted 96 goals while donning the jersey of Arsenal in close
to 200 league matches.
Van Persie achieved plenty of personal records while plying his trade at Arsenal. The Dutch talisman was reportedly extremely happy with his stay in Emirates. However, pundits suggest that the 29-year-old moved to Manchester United only to win silverware.
The Dutch international has reached the twilight of his career, and has thus far only managed to lift FA Cup and Community Shield once while wearing colours.
The prolific striker has put pen to contract on a deal at Old Trafford that runs until the summer of 2016., and would be keen to perform at his best under the tutelage of Sir Ferguson.
Van Gaal, who recently benched the former, is extremely delighted with the veteran striker’s move to the Red Devils.
The highly-talented striker has thus far made over 50 appearances for the Oranje, netting 29 goals while providing a bagful of assists along the way, since making his debut in 2005.
