Louis van Gaal has nothing but respect for Robin van Persie

The Netherlands boss revealed that he held talks with several players who were part of the Oranje squad that failed at Euro 2012, and added that he had the best of talks with the Manchester United striker.
Louis van Gaal has expressed admiration for, and has admitted that he has great respect for the Manchester United striker, both as a player and as a person.
The former Bayern Munich boss, who was appointed as the new coach of following the dismissal of Bert van Marwijk in the aftermath of the Oranje’s abysmal showings at Euro 2012, held talks with several national team

The Dutch trainer was keen to leave the former in the No. 9 role.
“After the summer, I had a showdown with a couple of the players who had been part of the team which failed in at Euro 2012. Van Persie was one of those players. I told him face-to-face that I had different plans and that I was
no longer going to consider him as the No.1 striker for Holland”, Van Gaal was quoted as saying to the media.
However, the former Ajax boss was tempted to give the lanky hit-man another opportunity to lead the Oranje’s attack pack against in his side’s opening game of the World Cup qualifiers at Amsterdam Arena on September 7.
The former talisman repaid his coach’s faith with an impressive goal in the 2-0 win over the Crescent-Stars.
“Robin's reaction stunned me. He showed so much character. He was positive, told me he respected me and said he would give ­everything for the team and that I could rely on him any day I was going to pick him again. It was the
best talk I have ever with a player - and I really mean that. It really was a special meeting and I have huge respect for him as both a player and a person”, Van Gaal concluded.
Netherlands will take on in their upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifier on September 11.
