Bayer Leverkusen manager Robin Dutt disappointed with Valencia loss- UCL news
Bayer Leverkusen manager Robin Dutt has expressed his disappointment on the mid-week Champions League 3-1 loss to Valencia. He claimed that the team played very well but a lapse in concentration led to two goals in a span of nine
minutes which was shocking. He rued missed chances also in the game and has admitted that Leverkusen needs good results in the remaining games.
Werkself suffered their second defeat in Europe this season as they lost to Valencia this Tuesday at the Mestalla. The home side opened the scoring in the first minute which was later cancelled in the first-half. The visitors looked
good for the first hour of play but a sudden lapse in concentration led to conceding two quick goals and after that there was no way back.
Dutt claimed that the home fans were getting frustrated and the pressure on was increasing. He admitted that his side had the chances to score but they went wasted. The tactician insisted that the players got over confident
which was taken advantage by the Spaniards.
The former manager admitted that a draw would have been a fair result for them but taking too many risks led to the defeat.
“We had already got their fans to the point that they were jeering their own team and we also had chances. I believe that as the game progressed, we thought more and more that we were going to win the game and maybe we then took
too many risks,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The boss stated that the team should have been more focused later in the game and could have avoided that negative score line but he expressed his satisfaction on the match overall.
“We should have been more controlled after making it 1-1 but then we were punished. Nevertheless, we have got to be very happy with the quality of our football, especially since we went behind so early,” he concluded.
Bayer Leverkusen will next face London giants for the second time after he left.
