Philipp Degen: Bayern Munich can win the Champions League

The defender has rated the Munich giants amongst the favourites to win this year’s UEFA Champions League. has admitted that Bayern Munich can go all the way in the Champions League this year. He was talking in the wake of his team’s 7-0 thrashing at the hands of the Munich giants on Tuesday, March 13, at the Allianz Arena.
Jupp Heynckes’ side also created the record of the greatest margin of victory in the knock-out stages of the competition. Bayern defeated Sporting Lisbon 7-1 in 2009. Manchester United and and
Bayer Leverkusen, respectively, with the same margin previously.
Degen reckons that the former European champions are in terrific touch at the moment and could possibly make it to the final at Allianz Arena later this year.
The defender admitted that it might be a tough ask to beat Barcelona if the Reds are drawn with them in the quarter-final. However, he admitted that the Catalan giants are certainly a beatable team and the Germans have the quality
and the players to overcome the challenge.
While talking to a sports website,, the tactician further added:
"Bayern were very good today, actually, they were outstanding. It's certainly possible. Bayern are capable of beating any team. Only Barcelona could be quite difficult, but even they are beatable."
The former full-back added that the Bavarians are capable of beating any team in the last eight stage and are definitely one of the contenders to lift the European crown.
He added that Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid are another side who have been in sensational form in the league as well as in Europe.
"Bayern can take them down. Today they performed outstandingly. With such performances, you can go very far," the former Borussia Dortmund right-back concluded.
The Reds will learn about their quarter-final opponents on Friday after the draws in Nyon. Apart from Bayern; Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan,, APOEL Nicosia, Benfica and Olympique Marseille have also booked their berth
in the last-eight of the competition.
