Football Update: Ajax Star Urby Emanuelson joins AC Milan for 1.7 million Euros
AC Milan have successfully acquired services of Dutchman from Ajax. The transfer concludes second signing for Milan side in winter’s transfer window, with Antonia Cassano joining a couple of weeks ago.
AC Milan splashed out 1.7 million Euros for his services, with the 24-year old signing a four year contract. Milan had option to sign him in summer as his contract with Dutch club will expire in June, but Milan feared that a tug of war might erupt in summer.
Emanuelson, who can play on wings and as left-back himself declared he wanted to play for Milan.
The beauty of Emanuelson is his versatility. He began his career with Ajax in 2004 solely as a left back. In time, he began to push farther up the field. He can be deployed in the midfield as well as at fullback.
Manager Massimiliano Allegri is thrilled about his new option. "He is a midfielder with great technique and is very dynamic,"
the first year Milan manager said. "He will be extremely useful for us."
Emanuelson is very excited about being with Milan, “My objective is to win trophies and I feel that I can do that here. I have known since our time together at Ajax.”
Emanuelson referred to his move to San Siro as a magical moment. He conceded that he was experiencing sleepless nights as he cannot wait to put on Milan shirt.
Urby was in attendance for Milan's 2-0 ground out victory over Cesena on Sunday. Milan are back in action against Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia last eight before traveling to Catania on Saturday, where Emanuelson is expected to make his league debut.
The only problem for Emanuelson is that he can not help Milan in their Champions League campaign. As a member of Ajax, he has already featured in Champions League so he is cup tied.
