Zico urges Udinese to have belief in themselves and must not get carried away: Serie A news
Former Brazilian star, Zico, believes that his former employers, Udinese, can challenge for the Scudetto in the 2011/12 season.
The Bianconeri have had a great start to the ongoing campaign and are placed 2nd in the league table equal on points with leaders, Juventus. Zico insists that the Zebrette should capitalise on the great start and must not let their levels drop.
While talking to the reporters, Zico said, “Udinese have to think big. They should not discount anything right now because anything can happen in this game of football.”
Despite losing few of their star players during the summer, Francesco Guidolin’s men look stronger this season. Gokhan Inler,ánchez-c4979 all left Udinese to join other teams during the summer transfer window but their presence has
not been felt at the Stadio Friuli Udine.
The Brazilian also hailed Napoli and believes that they are also genuine contenders for the title. Zico praised Walter Mazzarri’s squad and believes that they have some great individuals who can take them all the way.
On the other hand, the former midfielder is coy over Juve’s chances of winning the league. He believes that despite a great start it is a long road ahead for Antonio Conte’s men.
“ I think they are good enough to win the League. They are excellent overall and have some great individuals. With regards to Juventus, it is perhaps a little bit too soon to judge. They’ve made a good start, but the road is long.” added the Iraqi
Zico played for the Italian side from 1983 to 1985 and was a huge hit at the club. The 58-year-old scored 22 goals in 39 appearances before leaving the club.
Udinese struggled in the first part of the last season but made a strong comeback after the winter break to finish 4th in the league table. The Bianconeri were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League preliminary round stage by and are
now participating in the group stages of UEFA Europa league.
