Guus Hiddink hails Anzhi Makhachkala’s win over Rubin Kazan

Anzhi Makhachkala climbed to the fifth spot in the Russian Premier League after defeating Rubin Kazan 3-1 at Makhachkala stadium.
The Dagestani club came from behind to score three goals after going down early in the game. and Samuel Eto’o scored one each for the Makhachkala-based club after the Tatary had taken the lead through Sergei Davydov’s opener.
In the aftermath of the outcome, Guus Hiddink has expressed his satisfaction over his side’s latest win, and admitted that the Dagestani club deserved to claim all three points after coming from behind against the Russian Cup finalists.
Hiddink saluted his side’s commitment and approach towards the game, and congratulated them after claiming UEFA Europa League berth this season. With just one league game left to play, Anzhi have confirmed their place to compete
in Europe next season.
“In the first few minutes we needed an alarm clock and we got that after conceding the opening goal. We would have avoided it had we acted wisely defensively. I think we need to get better in some areas. However, I liked the way
my team responded to the goal. We put pressure on them and played actively during the second half.
“We have every reason to be happy with the result because we have achieved out target to play in the Europa League now.” The FA Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Hiddink, who joined the Dagestani club during the winter transfer window, revealed that he is happy with the team’s progress and motivated his side to win the upcoming home match against Zenit St. Petersburg on Sunday.
The Dutch tactician went on to praise Yuri Zhirkov, admitting that the UEFA Cup winner had a good game against the Volzhane. Hiddink revealed that Zhirkov, who returned to during the winter, has silenced his critics after
displaying such performances.
Hiddink denied that Zhirkov is struggling at the moment by admitting that the 28-year-old is still a goal threat.
