IPL5: Adam Gilchrist’s availability for Deccan clash still a question mark – Cricket News Update
A big question mark looms over the availability of Kings XI Punjab’s permanent skipper,, for the all important clash against Deccan Chargers – which will be played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Tuesday,
May 8, 2012.
Gilchrist, the former Australian cricketer, picked up a hamstring injury during the 22nd game of Indian Premier League (IPL5) played against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 18. The left-hander, who was advised a rest
of three weeks, has progressed well but still remains doubtful for Tuesday’s game.
When asked if he is sure of featuring in the match against his former IPL franchise, Gilchrist said, “Not sure. It really progressed well in the last few days, last week. Signs are positive. I will see how it goes tomorrow.”
Kings XI Punjab, the franchise co-owned by Bollywood, Preity Zinta, will have a rest of four days after the match against Deccan Chargers and this may tempt them to rest Gilchrist, so that he fully recovers from the injury
before taking the field.
Hinting that will lead the side for one more match, Gilly said, “The thing is that we have got four or five days until our next game after this one, so I guess there is a temptation to leave one more game and have
about a week`s recovery. So I`ll see how it is tomorrow.”
Punjab play back-to-back games against Deccan Chargers, the bottom ranked team of IPL. Gilchrist refused to downplay the importance of the game against a struggling side.  However, the wicket-keeper batsman was positive of securing
two crucial points for his side, who need to win four of their remaining five matches.
“It is same as any other game really, two points up for grabs. We got them (Deccan Chargers) back-to-back now. It`s a great cricket ground,” said Gilchrist. “I really enjoyed playing here previously. It`s a good challenge for us.”
The Australian also shared his views on’s inconsistent performance in the tournament. Gilchrist held that apart from Kolkata Knight Riders, all the other teams in IPL have been inconsistent; however, he hoped that Kings
XI Punjab will lift their game and get back to winning ways.
