Hi well my mom gets numbness in her hands. She doesnt know what it is but many people have told my mom that she may have diabetes. We dont think its diabetes because she has not been tested. My mom has high blood pressure though. Does that have something to do with it? Or is it something else we dont know about? Thank you so much for an answer

  1. It could be (does not meant that she has it, but it's a possibility) carpal tunnel syndrome. Did she work in an office setting where she used a typewriter or a computer alot?  Maybe she should see an orthopaedic surgeon for consultation.

  2. She could have a pinched nerve in her neck.  She needs to go see her doctor to find out for sure what is wrong.

  3. Numbness and tingling, Numbness and tingling are abnormal sensations that can occur anywhere in your body, but are often felt in your hands, feet, arms, or legs.

  4. She needs to go to a doctor for a complete physical.  There is no way anyone here can properly diagnose your mother.  Please convince her to get a checkup!

  5. The blood may not m be flowing properly to her hands

  6. There are a number of possible reasons for numbness in one's hands. Your mom should see a doctor, preferably a neurologist, instead of looking for answers here.

  7. My guess is that your mom has Diabetes.

Your argument that she hasn't been tested and therefore probably isn't diabetic just doesn't make sense. Maybe this little excerpt from the American Diabetes Association website will clarify things for you a bit....

There are 54 million people in the United States who have pre-diabetes. Recent research has shown that some long-term damage to the body, especially the heart and circulatory system, may already be occurring during pre-diabetes.

Diabetes is reaching epidemic proportions and many people have it and have no idea that they have it.

  8. Numbness and tingling can be symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and vascular disease.

  9. Sounds like CTS to me, is she on the computer or working with her hands alot?

numbness of the hands is the first sign of Carpal Tunnel Syndrom
