Eric Boullier says Robert Kubica is fast recovering after fourth surgery – Formula 1 update
Formula 1 Renault principal Eric Boullier has updated the media that Robert Kubica is improving fast after his fourth surgery.
He also mentioned that his condition is very positive and that doctors are hopeful for his quick recovery.
Following his rally crash, Kubica has undergone four surgeries until now. Boullier said, “He is ahead of schedule on all the forecasts, whether to do with rehabilitation or recovery. He is proving an example to the hospital. The doctors are supporting him.
He is extremely motivated, he has the morale, and even if it's not rosy every day overall he is maintaining exceptional spirits.”
A few days ago, Renault doctor Riccardo Ceccarelli updated the media that Kubica needs long period to recover from his multiple injuries. However, after his three successful surgeries, Kubica underwent a physiotherapy programme and he was able to move his
right wrist and fingers as a result. Further, he faced an extra surgery of the elbow for better movement of his arm.
The 26-year-old Kubica was not able to run over the last three test sessions however Nick Heidfeld continued his driving duties along Vitaly Petrov for Renault.
The team was happy, ahead of Heidfeld’s impressive run, which he completed during the winter testing.
Boullier said, “Nick has a very good approach. He gets deeply involved and has already convinced the technical team of his value. He has quickly built around himself a climate of confidence.”
According to Italian media reports, Kubica must take up to 3 months of rest before stepping back on the track.
Kubica considered himself lucky as he came out of his serious condition. He insisted, “I am facing a long and difficult rehabilitation, but I am not worried about that.”
On the other hand, both Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) president Jean Todt visited the hospital, before the final Barcelona test and Alonso was happy ahead of his friend’s quick recovery.
