Zoran Tosic laments CSKA Moscow’s UEFA Europa League exit

The Serbian footballer has urged his side to concentrate on the Russian Premier League after their below par performance in the return leg against Fotboll
CSKA Moscow could not save them crashing out of the UEFA Europa League after suffering a shocking 2-0 defeat in the play-off round return leg against AIK Fotboll at Arena Khimki on Thursday.
The Armeytsy, who deservedly reached the UEFA Champions League pre quarter-finals last term after defeating the likes of in the group stages, suffered a home defeat on the back of a 1-0 win over the
Swedish outfit last week.
The 2005 UEFA Cup winner failed to retain their one-goal lead and conceded twice in the second-half of the match.
In aftermath of the outcome, Zoran Tosic has lamented his side’s performance, admitting that they are themselves to blame for not reaching the later stages of the continental tournament.
The 21-year-old left winger admitted that the Moscow-based club were confident of claiming a win against the Yellow prior to the return leg, after securing a first-leg win on the away turf.
“The main reason for our defeat is that we did not take our chances. We underestimated a strong opponent. But when you play attacking football, it’s hard to avoid mistakes. AIC benefited by our own mistakes.” The Serbian Cup winner
was quoted as saying.
Tosic went on to defend Leonid Slutsky’s decision to play Ahmed Musa upfront, insisting that the Nigerian striker kept the opposition defenders at bay despite missing a couple of chances in the game.
He urged the fans not to blame the 19-year-old attacker for a weak performance and asked them to stop comparing him with, who scored 28 goals in 42 appearances last season.
The Russian Cup winner went on to apologize the fans for a disappointing European performance and assured them of altering the situation in near future.
The former Manchester United player told his team-mates to forget about the European exit, and urged them to start concentrating on the Russian Premier League campaign.
