Andrew Strauss pleased with England’s win against the West Indies – ICC World Cup 2011
The English captain Andrew Strauss expressed his excitement after winning the last group match against West Indies in the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011.
The England skipper said that despite their weak performances in the current World Cup, they have also given some hard-hitting performances which have kept their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals alive.
The captain also added that it was very difficult for them to play at the group stage because the competition was tough and challenging but nevertheless they have finally proved themselves. Strauss believes that they are likely to qualify for the next stage
of the tournament after the two group matches between South Africa and Bangladesh and the other between West Indies and India are played out. However the English team will have to wait to see the results of the match between Bangladesh and South Africa. South
Africa are favorites to win and if they beat then the England team might qualify for the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
England has had a rollercoaster experience in the 2011 World Cup so far. They defeated strong teams like which ended with a tie. The match
they played yesterday against West Indies was a tight match and the run-chase was not big. They however won the last group match by just 18 runs. “We should have got 260-270 but we fought brilliantly with the ball. Great credit to James Tredwell and Luke Wright
who have been waiting in the wings. We have to be more clinical, but for the time being tonight we'll enjoy this victory”, he added.
Neglecting the West Indian batting aggression, James Tredwell ruined the Windies batting line-up by his extra ordinary bowling performance. He clinched four wickets and gave out forty eight runs. These were the best bowling figures of his One Day career.
On the other hand, Graeme Swann supported him and got three wickets. The two bowlers played a vital role in England’s victory.
