I am under 18, and I want to build some credit without a co-signing. What is the easiest and cheapest way to do that?

  1. Wait until you're 18 and once you get a job, put some   money  away until you have enough to get a secured credit  card. Usually the minimum is $500. And don't buy things  you can not pay off the following month

  3. Ask a parent/adult with really good credit to add you on to their credit card account as an "authorized user," but don't use the credit card.

When you're added as an authorized user, their credit more or less becomes yours.  If they have really good credit, it makes yours look good, and the same for bad.  The best thing is, it works even if you don't use the card that you were added to.  Yes, it's kind of dishonest, and often referred to as "piggybacking" but it's completely legal.

It's really the only way to build credit before you hit age 18.

After you turn 18, you could always stay as an authorized user to keep that good credit, but in addition you could get your own credit card and hide it away.  Trust me, no matter how responsible you are, credit cards will get you in trouble.  I myself racked up a lot of debt just buying "necessities."
