West Indies recall Denesh Ramdin and Marlon Samuels for tour of England – Cricket News Update
West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has revealed the 15-man squad for the tour of, which will start from Thursday, May 17, 2012, with a match at Lord's, London.
Denesh Ramdin, the wicket-keeper batsman, has made a return to his national squad after missing the home series against Australia due to injury.
Marlon Samuels, the all-round cricketer, will also be a part of the roster after he opted out of Australian series to take part in the cash rich Indian Premier League (IPL5)., who was wicket-keeping in Ramdin’s absence, has been dropped from the side after some lacklustre performances. Though, the wicket-keeper was good with the gloves it was his batting that proved to be his downfall., WICB chairman of selectors, in a press conference said, “Baugh has been good behind the stumps, but his batting has not quite lived up to expectations, hence the selection of Ramdin. Before he got injured in the camp
prior to the series against, Denesh was showing good form both behind the stumps and with the bat.”
On inclusion of Samuels, Butts said, “Marlon since his return to the team has not done badly for us and the selectors feel that he is an asset to the team. He had asked to miss the Australia matches for a stint at IPL.” Cricket Board has also picked two uncapped players, namely Young Gabriel and Assad Fudadin. Gabriel is a medium-pacer while Fudadin, a left-handed batter, is primarily a batsman who can ball as well.
One of the big names missing from the squad was Devendra Bishoo. The leg-spinner, who has been the key-weapon of West Indies bowling arsenal for well over a year was dropped after failing to pick wickets against the Aussies. has taken over the role of West Indies top spinner. Shillingford is the lone specialist spinner in the squad, as WICB has packed the team with seamers.
