Tamsin Cook acquires Girls 5km Open Water gold: Day two – Australian Open Water Championships
Tamsin Cook went on a rampage in the 5km Open Water discipline and acquired gold medal of the event in Girls 13 Year Olds age category on day two of the 2012 Australian Open Water Championships on Saturday, February 18.
Cook experienced a strong battle from her fellow swimmers in the 5k discipline, but with her immaculate skills she succeeded in earning her way to the top of podium for gold medal.
The 13-year-old Cook upset her challengers by occupying gold medal of the event in a time of 1 hour, 02 minutes and 55.06 seconds. With her relentless efforts, she remained nearly four seconds away from Phoebe Hines of Kawana Waters, who seized silver medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 hour, 02 minutes and 59.21 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Grace Hull of Breakers, who was just 2.52 seconds behind and followed Hines on the victory stand for bronze medal by submitting a time of 1 hour, 03 minutes and 01.73 seconds.
Hull was followed by Hines’ team-member, Sarah Thompson, who was almost three minutes away from her former finisher and reported an effort of 1 hour, 05 minutes and 57.73 seconds for fourth position.
In the meantime, the spectators witnessed Ashleigh Anderson of Corrimal, who secured fifth position of the event by finishing her swim in a time of 1 hour, 08 minutes and 29.38 seconds. The sixth spot of the race was occupied by Isabella Marinelli of Woden, who ended her race in a time of 1 hour, 08 minutes and 58.44 seconds.
Subsequently, Adelaide Wood of Surrey Park stayed almost three seconds slower from her former finisher and proved her eligibility for the seventh finest spot of the race by producing a time of 1 hour, 09 minutes and 01.34 seconds.
She was chased by Casey Fitzsimons of Melton, who occupied eighth position of the event by posting 1 hour, 09 minutes and 04.47 seconds.
Cook was pleased with her scintillating effort in the 5km discipline whereas the position holders received a huge round of applause from the audience at medal ceremony after the session.
