Gauteng 243 v Western Province 225 - Gauteng won by 18 runs
In the ongoing CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge, Gauteng on Sunday, January 29, 2012 won their match against Western Province at Northerns-Goodwood Cricket Club Oval, Cape Town.
Gauteng, who chose to bat first after winning the toss, amassed a massive tally of 243 runs in 50 overs to leave their opponents in complete disarray after their top order batted superbly well.
Starting their innings, Gauteng openers, Keaton Jennings and Grant Mokoena gave their side an opening stand of 36 runs, before Mokoena lost his wicket after playing an innings of 18 runs.
With 44 runs on the board, the batting side lost their second wicket, when number-three batsman after scoring only five runs.
After the loss of two wickets in quick succession, came out to provide a sensational support to Jennings, as the duo forged a daunting resistance against the bowling attack from Western Province.
After taking the score to 114 runs, the partnership was finally broken when Jennings was stumped after playing an innings of 54 runs.
Gauteng, suffered the loss of their fourth wicket when at the tally of 189 runs; Symes lost his wicket after hammering a stupendous knock of 79 runs.
After the departure of the middle-order duo, and Sizwe Masondo clobbered 28 and 38 runs with the rest of the batting line-up facing annihilation by the hands of Western Province.
With four batsmen failing to score in the lower-order, the side ended their innings by posting 243 runs on the board.
From Western Province, spinner Simetu was the highest wicket taker from his side with four wickets to his name.
Given a decent total to chase, Western Province failed to win the match as they were bowled-out on 225 runs, with middle-order batsman as the top scorer from his side after amassing 71 runs off 95 deliveries.
From Gauteng, pacer Ethan O'Reilly was the top bowler with four wickets, while Jean Symes and bagged two wickets each.
