Gauteng 316/8 (84.0 ov) v Easterns - Easterns won the toss and elected to field
On the first day of the three-day match in the ongoing CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge, Gauteng posted 316 runs for the loss of eight wickets against Easterns at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on Tuesday, December 27, 2011.
After winning the toss, Easterns decided to field first in bid to restrict their opposition on a meagre tally on a bowling pitch.
The side made early inroads when they grabbed the first wicket of the day by dismissing Gauteng opener,, on one run as the team lost their opener with only two runs on the board.
However, after the demise of the first wicket, opener Keaton Jennings and number-three batsman,, crafted a belligerent partnership together as they hammered the bowlers without remorse.
The batsmen clobbered 197 runs in the second wicket partnership, ripping apart the opposition piece by piece.
It was finally in the 52nd over when Easterns grabbed their second wicket as they dismissed Jennings on 74 runs. At the time of this wicket, the side had posted 199 runs on the board.
Meanwhile, Bodi kept on batting sensationally as he seemed well set to score a big innings against a decent bowling attack.
He lost his wicket after smashing a stupendous innings of 134 runs off 188 deliveries as the side lost this crucial wicket with 219 runs on the board.
With 228 runs on the board, the batting side lost their fourth wicket, when batsman Grant Mokoena was dismissed after scoring six runs.
Middle-order batsmen then brought stability in the middle as they stood defiant against an offensive bowling onslaught.
Kock, found his way back to the pavilion after playing an innings of 29 runs while Easterns saw the back of Cameron after he scored 17 runs off 40 deliveries.
Later, the side posted a daunting total on the board with still standing on 29 runs at stumps.
From Easterns, spinner was the highest wicket taker with three wickets to his name.
