Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll shares his views on controversial call – NFL News
Although the replacement referees in the National Football League (NFL) have been receiving criticism from nearly everyone, they have found a supporting voice in Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll whose team won Week 3 game against Green Bay Packers
due to a controversial call by the field ref that was also supported by a review.
Packers were leading the game when Seahawks got a touchdown opportunity in the final few seconds of the game. The catch was made by two entities, Packers defender M.D. Jennings and Seahawks receiver Golden Tate.
The initial field ruling was later confirmed through a review and the touchdown was awarded to Seahawks. Even the league office has supported the call.
However, the league office has admitted that the refs missed to call pass interference by the Seahawks receiver as he had also shoved out another defender while attempting to catch the ball. If that had been called, the touchdown would not have been counted.
The decision infuriated the Packers, but Carroll is of the view that everyone should move on now. During an interview with NFL Network, the Seahawks head coach said:
“If I was on the other side, I would be saying the same kind of stuff. I would totally understand, although we all gotta move on, and that's what we're doing here."
When asked about what he thought of the move, Carroll said:
"I think it's cool that the league thought that, too. It's very questionable, it's a very questionable call to make.”
Carroll continued:
“Up in the air, it looked like the DB had the advantage, but when they got to the ground, it's a matched-up catch, and it's a very hard one to call.”
He further said:
"The league reviewed it and said they agreed with what was called on the field, they just missed the pass interference."
It is easy for Carroll to just ask everyone else to move on, but the league office must do something quickly to counter the consistent flaws made by the replacement refs.
Seahawks have now won two of their three games in the season and are tied with the San Francisco 49ers in National Football Conference (NFC) West as far as number of victories and losses is concerned. They will face St. Louis Rams in Week 4 game on Sunday.
