Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals hope to stay unbeaten – NFL Preview
After a winning start to their respective season campaigns, both Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals are going to face each other in Week 3 game on Sunday, September 23, at University of Phoenix Stadium.
The game will eventually end one team’s unbeaten run as both are 2-0 each after the first two weeks.
It is surprising to see both these teams maintaining such a record, because their rosters and the on-field performances do not give them a healthy advantage over their opponents.
Eagles do have a pretty impressive roster, but their performance in the first two games has been below par. In Week 1 game, they managed to gain victory over Cleveland Browns in the final few minutes, while their Week 2 victory over Baltimore Ravens also
came in the same fashion.
Their quarterback Michael Vick provided the game-winning touchdowns in both games, but he has not been able to find his rhythm yet. Vick has struggled with his accuracy and apart from having low pass completion ratio the quarterback has sent interceptions
as well.
Although Vick has struggled in the first two games, he nevertheless remains a danger for the Cards, who did well in their season opener to put pressure on Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.
Cardinals are expected to present the same challenge to Vick. Linebacker O’Brien Schofield said:
“Our biggest thing this week is treating him how we played Russell Wilson. Try to contain him and bring the pressure, get his mind off his reads and really have him focus on the pass rush and trying to escape.”
Cardinals won their season opener by defeating Seahawks, while their victory against New England Patriots in Week 2 game was shocking for many. Although Patriots’ weak performance towards the end of the game also played the role in the outcome of the result,
the Cards nevertheless were able to win their second straight game of the season.
Cardinals have relied more on their defence for their victories. They suffocated Seahawks’ offence, and Tom Brady-led Patriots’ offence was also not allowed to dominate the field. Cardinals can make life difficult for Eagles as well and the visitors are
aware of the threat they face.
Vick said of Cardinals’ defence:
“The Arizona defence is good and they pose a lot of different challenges.”
The quarterback added:
“They do some different things that can create penetration on the offensive line. They have a great group of guys over there on the defensive side of the ball. We just have to make sure that we take care of that and hopefully everything else will take care
of itself."
Cardinals certainly have the defence capable of tackling the current Eagles’ offence. If Vick improves his game then Cardinals might find it hard to win the game, but if Eagles’ offence stays the same then Cardinals will have an edge.
