NBA Recap: Milwaukee Bucks defeat the Detroit Pistons 92-90
Brandon Jennings impressive 21 points helped Milwaukee Bucks defeat the Detroit Pistons, on Tuesday night at Bradley Center, Milwaukee.
Jennings literally took over the final moments of the game. After blocking a critical three pointer by Pistons’ point guard Will Bynum in the dying seconds, he secured two free throws with 5.9 remaining in the game. The maverick
forward, smashed in both the shots from the charity stripe as the Bucks squeaked out a 92-90 win over the spirited Pistons.
Commenting on the game breaking swat after the game he said.
“Actually, I was hustling for the rebound and (Rodney) Stuckey got it and threw it to Will Bynum in the corner. My first instinct was he was going to pump-fake, so I didn't want to run into him and give him three shots. But he
went up for it and I had to make a big block”.
Bucks’ starting roster included Carlos Delfino, Jon Brockman, Larry Sanders, John Salmons, and Brandon Jennings while Pistons’ first five starters include Chris Wilcox, Austin Daye, Greg Monroe, Ben Gordon, and Rodney Stuckey.
John Salmons scored five points within the first two minutes as the Bucks raced onto a 7-0 lead to start the game. The Pistons’ offense soon gathered pace but could not overturn the initial deficit as the teams headed into the
second frame with the Bucks holding advantage at 28-22.
The six point advantage was quickly translated into an 8-point lead as Earl Barron scored a tip shot to start the second quarter. By the time, Earl Boykins netted two charity throws at the midway point of the quarter, the Bucks
gained a 42-33 lead, their biggest of the game. Rodney Stuckey however stepped up to the party for the Pistons at that juncture. The shooting guard sparked a 17-9 rally in the final five minutes of the play, one he eventually capped with a three point play
to bring the Pistons with a single point at the half time.
The Pistons continued their offensive surge in the third quarter, out-scoring the Bucks 25-21 as they went into the final period with a 75-72 lead.
John Salmon’s though levelled it early in the final piece as he canned a triple pointer. He scored 14 points, four rebounds and two assists in total.
When the scores reached at 88-90, Brandon Jennings two free throws proved decisive as the match ended at 90-92 providing Bucks a third victory in nine games.
Bucks’ rookie Larry Sanders also played in this game and gathered eight points in total and blocked two vital shots of Pistons’ Hamilton in final two minutes. Carlos Delfino scored 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
Detroit's Richard ‘Rip’ Hamilton, playing for the first time since Feb. 5 was expectedly rusty and went 4-for-17 in 26 minutes. Hamilton commented on his performance soon after the match.
“My shot felt terrible, it felt terrible. The good thing is that I was able to get to where I wanted to get to on the floor, but every bread and butter shot that I pride myself on I missed”.
Pistons’ Rodney Stuckey scored match high 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Greg Monroe added 13 points, with nine rebounds while Charlie Villanueva gathered 12 points.
Matt Boland, Bill Spooner, and Eric Lewis officiated the match in front of 11,364 spectators.
Milwaukee Bucks currently holds the 10th position in Eastern Conference. They will be facing Phoenix Suns on Friday, while Detroit Pistons are one spot behind from Bucks at 11th position in Eastern Conference’s
current standings.
