Lasith Malinga helps Sri Lanka bowl Kenya out for 142 - ICC World Cup 2011
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in their Group A clash of the ICC World Cup 2011. The match is being played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The wicket was conducive for batting, but the Kenyan team wasn’t able to take advantage of it. Kenyan Captain Jimmy Kamande had elected to bat first, after winning the toss for his team.
The innings was started by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Seren-Waters-c89209 and wicketkeeper batsman Maurice Ouma for the visitors. However, the start wasn’t an ideal one for the African team, as both openers were sent back to the pavilion for a total of eight runs.
Ouma and Waters were both given out after scoring one and three runs respectively. However, Collins Obuya and David Obuya steadied the ship for their team with a 94-run partnership for the third wicket.
The Obuya brothers didn’t take too many risks, and ensured that they didn’t lose any wickets. They laid a solid platform for the lower middle-order, but none of the batsmen took advantage of the foundation laid.
Even though the Obuya brothers took a while to reach their half-centuries, the team needed such a partnership, since they had been struggling to bat out the entire 50 overs in the tournament.
However, Collins and David should have carried onto the starts they got, and one of them should have tried to score a century for his team. Collins was dismissed after scoring 52 runs off 100 balls whereas; David managed 51 runs from 106 balls.
After the fall of the Obuya brothers, the lower middle-order was crushed by some lethal bowling from Lasith Malinga, who was playing his first match of this World Cup. Malinga had missed the opening two matches due to an injury.
Other than the half-centuries from the Obuya brothers, none of the Kenyan batsmen were able to score in double figures, with the third highest score being eight by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nehemiah-Odhiambo-c79044.
The bowling was led by Malinga for the hosts as the returning pacer took six wickets in the match, including a hat-trick. This was the second hat-trick of the 2011 World Cup, after West Indian fast bowler Kemar Roach dismissed the last three Dutch batsmen
in consecutive balls yesterday.
