Chelsea come from behind to down United 2-1 at Stamford Bridge
– Premier League match update
Chelsea beat Manchester United 2-1 in a Premier League encounter at the Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening. Goals from David Luiz and helped the hosts to move to the fourth spot on the league table.
Carlo Ancelotti made only one change to his starting line-up that beat FC Copenhagen 2-0 in UEFA Champion’s league last 16 round fixture. Jose Bosingwa was replaced by in the defence for the Blues. On the other hand, Sir Alex Ferguson named an
unchanged side that beat Wigan Athletic 4-0 at the weekend. Javier Hernandez started upfront alongside Rooney in a 4-4-2 formation for the Red Devils.
Both sides started the first half cautiously as they looked to gain possession. The hosts looked lively in early action, as the first real chance of the game fell their way. in the box, whose shot
went just inches wide off the left post. Moments later, United came close when played Rooney
just outside the box and the striker’s low drive kissed the post and went into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 for United. Chelsea enjoyed a good spell of play after conceding and they should have scored when Frank Lampard’s free kick was brilliantly saved

The second half witnessed an exciting start. Immediately after the resumption, Chelsea levelled the scoring.  Ivanovic’s header from Essien’s cross fell to Luiz, who flashed in a volley at far post to make it 1-1 for the hosts. Chelsea dominated the play
after the goal, and created several goal scoring opportunities. United looked dangerous on the counter attack but the hosts dealt with the threat comfortably. In the 78th minute, Smalling
and the referee pointed to the spot. A controversial penalty was taken by Lampard, who blasted his shot into the net to make it 2-1 for the Blues. The visitors squandered a first half lead and things became worse for them when saw his second
yellow card of the evening and was sent off for a foul on held onto their lead, as United slumped to their second defeat of the season.
Chelsea will take on Blackpool in their next Premier League encounter on 6th March, while United will visit on 5th March.
