Pietersen, who retired from international limited-overs cricket earlier this year, has been looking to convince the England and Wales cricket board to include him in the team for the World T20 later this year, where England will be going in as the defending
champions. He had earlier expressed the desire to continue playing T20 cricket and retire from ODIs - however, board rules dictate that any player who retires from one format, is immediately unavailable for selection from the other.
Following their recent Test series victory against has insisted that the team needs to continue in a similar vein, as they gear up for their upcoming series against India, due to be followed by the
ICC World Twenty20 which they will host in September this year.
“We have just finished a series against Pakistan successfully and what is important is to continue with the good work,” he said. “It's a good opportunity against We need to take the team forward. We have brought in a few new players for the one-day
side, and we have to think about the World Twenty20.”
The upcoming series against India, which commences on July 21 at Hambantota, includes a 5-match ODI series, and an only T20I. in the upcoming 2-match Test series, despite having lost both the T20I and ODI legs of the ongoing tour.
“We've got three or four new guys that have come in that will bring a new energy to the team,” said. “We've got a warm-up game as well, which I'm sure will be a big help on what will be the playing wicket for the test match.”
The Test squad features the additions of experienced cricketers has also been added to the line-up. The team is due
to play a warm-up match against the West Indies Cricket Board President's XI from July 20 to 22 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, and the first Test of the series will be played from July 25 to 29 at the same venue.
