The striker insisted that the momentum is certainly with Jose Mourinho’s side after the Los Blancos held high flying to a 1-1 draw. The Primera Division fixture took place on Saturday, 16 April at the Bernabeu.
The 35-year-old declared that Catalan giants are not as good as they were a few months back and Real Madrid could easily inflict defeat upon their rivals. He mentioned that Real were extremely competitive when the two sides met on Saturday and praised their
efforts for limiting Barca to a draw despite having played with ten men for most of the second half.
He further added, "I think that the momentum lies with Real Madrid after last weekend's match. The way in which they bounced back after being reduced to ten men showed that they have what it takes to beat Barcelona."
Former striker doubted the quality in Barcelona’s present squad and encouraged Los Blancos to beat Josep Guardiola’s army. Further commenting upon Barcelona’s line-up, Morientes told, "Barcelona are no longer as strong as they were four or five
months ago. I'm convinced that Real Madrid will beat them to win this year's Copa del Rey."
Fernando seemed thrilled at the prospect of having an enthralling game on the hands and voiced that Barcelona would find it really hard to beat an all charged-up Real Madrid.
Los Blancos have lifted the Copa del Rey title, a total of 17 times, the last one being in 1992-93 where the Whites defeated by a 2-0 margin. The last time Madrid went in to the finals of the competition was in 2003-04 where they were beaten
3-2 by Real Zaragoza.
Barcelona on the other hand, has won the Copa del Rey for a record 25 times, the last time it happened was in 2008-09 where the Catalan giants routed Athletic Bilbao by a 4-1 margin.
