Audi defeat Grants Farm in 2011 Bombardier Pacific Coast Open: 17-14 – Polo Update
Gonzalito Pieres, the ten-goal Argentinean striker was in dazzling form and scored thirteen times to carry Audi to a convincing 17-14 win over Grants Farm in the first match of the 2011 Bombardier Pacific Coast Open being underway at the Santa Barbara Polo
Club.
The two teams showed competitive performance in the first seven and half minutes of play. Carlitos Gracida opened up the play through a field effort and put Audi ahead onto the scoreboard. In the later time, Gracida scored twice and expanded the lead up
to three. From the other side, Nic Roldan scored two times while his team-mate Jeff Hall added a goal and tied the knots at three-each at the end of the first frame.
In the second round, Roldan scored a pair of goals from the field and penalty conversions while Hall converted a long penalty shot to take lead in the game. On the other side, the flexible defence from Grants Farm limited the Audi strike only for two goals.
Piers scored off the two penalty shots to remain in the game. The period ended with Grants Farm sitting ahead at 6-5.
The third set of play was opened with Grants Farm showing fast style of play. Hall accounted for two goals while Roldan marked a single effort to further expand the lead. With to and fro attacks, the team Audi obtained three goals but failed to get an equaliser
in the half-time. All the three goals were scored by Pieres and Audi was trailing by one goal after the three-chukka action.
Both Grants Farm and Audi teams exchanged a couple of goals in the fourth round and increased the suspense of the game. Carlos Gracida of Audi notched a single goal and made the score even. However, Roldan scored off a long penalty shot regain the advantage.
In the later time Nick Morrison scored his first goal of the day. However, it was replied by a goal from Pieres. With two frames left to play, Grants Farm was sitting ahead at 11-10.
In the second last frame, Hall added two more goals in the score of Grants Farm. But the attackers from Audi side flexed their muscles and made the game equal. Piers scored all the three goals and locked horns with seven minutes left to fight on the field.
The Audi side showed impressive performance in the last period and obtained four goals while holding Grants Farm only for a single goal. Pieres and Carlos Gracida added three and two goals respectively and extended the edge up to four goals. Roldan nailed
in the last goal but it could not save them from a humiliated defeat. Grants Farm lost the game at 17-14.
