Why do parents let their kids wear floaties?

I just wanted to see the reasoning behind it. I agree with the parents that use them at times and are right by their kids but then I see the parents that stick them on the kid and are nowhere to be seen. I think they are okay to start out learning to swim but if you let them wear them ALL the time, it gives them a false sense of security.

I agree w/ 1298... they are fun to wear even though one knows how to swim. I learned to swim w/ them and still use them. I think they are better than a  tube or those silly noodles.
