South Africa Domestic: CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge - Western Province v South Western Districts – Match Update
South Western Districts 211 & 208 v Western Province 115 & 35/3 (13.1 ov) - Western Province require another 270 runs with 7 wickets remaining
In the ongoing Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 (CSA) Provincial Three-Day Challenge, Western Province have made 35 runs with seven wickets in hand in pursuit of 305 runs to win the match against South Western Districts at Northerns-Goodwood Cricket Club Oval, Cape Town on Friday, December 09, 2011.
After ending the first day of the three-day match on 50 runs for the loss of three wickets in their first innings, Western Province continued their batting on the second day of play in order to subdue their opponents.
WP needed to overcome the first innings tally of 211 runs posted by South Western Districts, however, the batsmen failed to give a befitting response to the bowlers they were up against as wickets kept falling at random.
Middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moegamat-Qaasim-Adams-c76476, gave some resistance to the SWD bowlers as he blasted an innings of 21 runs.
Later, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ryan-Clement-Cavanagh-Canning-c87289 played an unbeaten knock of 23 runs, as he desperately tried to launch a batting comeback, however, he was not provided due support and ultimately the team fell after scoring 115 runs in their first innings.
From SWD, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phaphama-Fojela-c82005 grabbed four wickets to leave the opposition flabbergasted.
Coming out to bat in their second innings, South Western Districts, aimed to post enough runs on the board to win the match.
However, Western Province bowlers were up to speed and made sure not to allow the batting side to steer the game at will.
Nonetheless, SWD managed to amass 208 runs with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Burton-Christopher-de-Wett-c48845 (78) and Brendon Louw (32) remaining top scorers from their side.
Western Province spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dane-Leeroy-Piedt-c52214, who remained wicket less in the first innings made a superb comeback by bagging four wickets in the second innings.
Needing 305 runs to win, Western Province made 35 runs for the loss of three wickets at stumps on the second day.
