Gauteng 338 v Easterns 50/157 - Gauteng won by an innings and 131 runs
On Wednesday, December 28, 2011 Gauteng grabbed a stupendous win of an innings and 131 runs against Easterns in the CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.
After ending the first day of play on 316 runs for the loss of eight wickets, Gauteng resumed their batting in a bid to post a massive tally on the board, to give their opponents a run for the money.
However, their plans were shattered when, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Etienne-Gerber-c56452, lost his wicket after adding only a run to his overnight tally of 29 runs. This early loss of wicket was a big blow for the batting side.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Ian-Hume-c60589, departed after hammering an innings of 32 runs as Gauteng ended their first innings after posting 338 runs on the board.
From Easterns, medium-pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shaun-Walter-Liebisch-c89865 was the most successful bowler with four wickets to his name as he made it extremely difficult for the batsmen to score off him.
Coming out to bat, Easterns had a huge task ahead of them as they needed to bat extremely well against a formidable bowling attack.
However, they were oblivious of what was coming their way as Gauteng launched a barrage of stupendous bowling against the batsmen, and incinerated the opponents right from the word go.
Six Easterns batsmen lost their wickets without posting a run, while the rest were prevented from scoring in double figures, except for middle-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brad-Moses-c48267 who scored 12 and 21 runs.
In the end, the side faltered after posting a mere tally of 50 runs in 23.5 overs in their first innings.
Gauteng medium-pacer, Hloni Mokoena, wrecked havoc on the batsmen as he nabbed five wickets in the first innings.
Forced to follow-on, Easterns came out to bat once more; however, the batting side failed yet again and fell after amassing 157 runs in their second innings.
Right-arm pacer, Junior Dala, this time gave a commendable performance by grabbing five wickets.
