Australia is a beautiful country in the Southern Hemisphere comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania and several smaller islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The important neighboring countries are: Indonesia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea to the north, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia to the northeast and New Zealand to the southeast.

The population grew consistently in subsequent decades; the continent was explored and an additional five self-governing Crown Colonies were formed.

    On first January 1901, the six new colonies became a federation and the Commonwealth of Australia was developed. Since Federation, Australia has created a uniform liberal democratic political procedure and is a Commonwealth realm. The number of the total population is approximately 22 million, with roughly 60 per cent concentrated in and around the mainland state capitals of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. The Canberra is the nation's capital city and in the Australian Capital Territory. Roughly 56 percent of Australia's population living in either Victoria or New South Wales, and approximately 77 per cent live on the mainland's east coast.
