Why did Henrik Stenson bother turning up?

Stenson has just withdrawn from the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship after playing exactly one hole. What was the point in even showing up in the first place?

The Swede won here in 2007, so maybe he wanted to give it a chance even though he wasn't in the best condition? Stenson is apparently suffering from "flu-like symptoms". Hey, if the guy's too ill to play, at least he made the valiant effort of trying the first hole right? Nothing to do with the fact that if he'd withdrawn without playing a hole, he wouldn't have collected his last place money of $45,000....
