There are many myths and folklore of the vampire. I am familiar with the Eastern European Mythology.

I goes back thousands of years ago. Vampires drank human blood - rose from the dead- and preyed on people at night.

Easter Orthodox Church and the Western Roman Catholics split from one another over different beliefs - The Catholics believed in-corrupt souls were saints while the Orthodox believed they were vampires. People would sprinkle poppy or millet seeds on fresh grave-sites in order to keep the vampire busy during the night so he would not prey on those who were alive.
