Jan-Lennard Struff qualify to the next round – Szczecin Challenger 2012
Jan-Lennard Struff squashes Simon Wardelmann, 6-0, 6-1
Ranked 267th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Jan-Lennard Struff ousted his compatriot, Simon Wardelmann in the initial qualifying round of the Szczecin Challenger, Poland. Struff jolted down his 6-0, 6-1 triumph on Saturday.
The Germans contested each other for the first time and the 22-year-old, Struff successfully maintained his high pace performance. He demonstrated his superior game plan and without any resistance made his way to the top. Wardelmann
was unable to face his rival’s pressure and could not sustain his serve the entire time in the set. Struff successfully advanced and closed the set with his 6-0 lead.
The 21-year-old, Wardelmann like before was unable to pick tempo and failed to maintain his initial serve. Struff busted his opponents serve in the second and the fourth game, towering the score line with a 4-love lead. Towards
the end, Wardelmann did win a game but his efforts were in vain, Struff nudged his challenger and concluded the match with a 6-1 win.
The right-hander, Wardelmann had a higher initial serve precision of 60 percent, but fell short as he double faulted five times. On the contrary, the higher ranked German manifested 53 percent initial serve accuracy, capitalizing
five of 10 break points presented to him.
Tomasz Bednarek defeats Stefano Ianni 6-3, 6-1
Right-hander local challenger, Tomasz Bednarek prevailed over the Italian veteran, Stefano Ianni in the initial qualifying round of the Szczecin Challenger 2012, Poland. The Pole concluded the match with his 6-3, 6-1 win on Saturday.
Both veterans were defenseless as they were unable to sustain their initial serves in the match. The 30-year-old, Bednarek confidently drew the first blood and marked a 2-1 score line in the third game. On the contrary, Ianni did
not provide his rival with much resistance and faced difficulty to sustain his lead in the series. The Pole broke his challenger’s serve twice i.e. in the fourth and sixth game respectively. The Italian struggled hard and similarly broke his rival’s serve
in the very next game, however, Bednarek nudged forward and wrapped up the set with a 6-3 score.
For the subsequent set, Polish professional snatched the opportunity and secured the first the three games. For the earlier part of the set, he did not receive any break but toward the end, the 31-year-old Irish suddenly activated
and broke his rival’s serve in the sixth game. Nonetheless, this proved to be ineffective because Bednarek pushed away his rival and secured a 6-1 win.
