  1. You can make deuterium so why do we have to go to the philippines for it.


  2. We have been using deuterium as Heavy Water as a moderator in our CANDU nuclear reactors since we began using CANDU. Finding deuterium (hydrogen with an extra neutron) has been a significant cost even when used to produce gigawatts of  power with it. The only limitation I see here is that deuterium is naturally quite rare.

  3. That's just a fraud, deuterium is probably going to be used for fusion when we get that working (which will take a couple of decades, yes I know they said that a couple of decades ago) but fusion is hard.

    Right now the only use of deuterium for energy production is moderating CANDU fission reactors and that's an indirect use (i.e. it's only helping Uranium split, not actually providing any energy).
