  1. suk it up....... if you dont like nbn change the bloody channel

  2. Who do you think came up with the acronym ANZAC Australia did, that in itself is an acknowledgement. The population of Australia is not responsible for media reports.

  3. That's Aussies for ya - always pinching or taking credit for our stuff!  They still won't admit they stole the Pavlova either.

  4. If you actually go to one of the services or marches (I went to the one in Canberra) there is most certainly a mention of New Zealand soldiers, the media has tunnel vision on everything so you can hardly expect any different on this.

  5. Yeah, New Zealand is where the NZ in ANZAC comes from.

I am sure the Kiwis aren't making a big fuss about the Aussie involvement.  It wouldn't be really relevant, since they're Kiwis.  Why should we make a big fuss of the Kiwi involvement?

No offence to the Kiwis, but we both share the day for the same reason.  We don't need to point out the other country's involvement.  Each country respects the involvement of the other.  Our media didn't mention New Zealand at ALL over here (in Australia).

Just because the rest of the world (ie, the Yanks) can't figure out that New Zealand is a country doesn't mean much.

  6. You are not living in New Zealand. As much as you think that it is a part of Australia or wish it so it is not. I bet you anything that in New Zealand they did not mention the Aussie Diggers.

The Gallipoli service was attended by around 10,000 Aussies and New Zealanders and MC'd by a New Zealander. Plus today we erected a statue of a New Zealand digger on the ANZAC bridge in Sydney to make it complete.

So I think we know that you guys were there along side us and lost many many lives also. We do acknowledge them but we acknowledge first of all our diggers.

  7. It's not like in New Zealand Australians are mentioned that much in our media either, although i remember on TV ONE, they did bother to have a correspondent over at the Australian national ANZAC day services.

It's also important to remember that ANZAC day is not just about the New Zealanders and Aussies fighting as ANZACs at Galipoli; but is a day designed to commemorate all the soldiers in all the wars that NZers (or Australians if your in Australia) fought in. That includes the Boer War, Korea, Vietnam etc... Also, remember that ANZAC day shouldn't really be about remembering exactly who fought in the wars as such, but about how much a disaster war always turns out to be, and that we should endevour never to let it happen again.

  8. sorry to hear that perhaps you could send an e mail to NBN.

  9. rude huh? we are not as big as australia, but we send troops over to fight too... and belive it or not our soldiers are some of the toughest in the world.

that totally sucks... most of the time people dont really even know where new zealand is.

  10. I think there needs to be a real acknowledgement that both NZ and Australia make up the 'ANZ' part of ANZAC. However, i think most people in NZ and Australia know this.

I do have to disagree with people who don't think Australia was mentioned in NZ reports, because it most certainly was, but in NZ the focus is primarily on NZ soldiers in War, and obviously Gallipoili (and also Paschendaale). But I think that is ok. In Australia they focus on the Australian effort and conciousness. In NZ they focus on NZ.

As long as there is recognition that it is an important day for both countries then I see no problem with it. I do think there is a need to tell people that other countries fought at Gallipoli as wel (Canada, UK, India etc) but the fact that the NZ media focuses on NZ or the Australian media focuses on Australia- i do not see a real problem with that. As long as each group continues to be allowed to march. I do think that is important.
