New Zealand win toss and elect to bat against Pakistan - ICC World Cup 2011
New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first against Pakistan in a Group A match of the ICC World Cup 2011, being played at Pallakele International Cricket Stadium in
Today’s match will be the first to be played at the Pallakele Stadium. The beautiful ground has long boundaries, and the player’s stamina will be tested during the match, as a lot of running will be required. The wicket had a ting of green on it, and there
was some bounce and pace expected for the bowlers. However, the Kiwi captain Daniel Vettori didn’t bother about that and elected to bat first.
This can be a risky move by Vettori, as a fresh wicket can always be dicey. However, the Kiwi captain thought that the bounce would not bother his batsmen, as the ball should come at a good height making things easy for the batsmen. There have been a couple
of changes made to the New Zealand playing 11 today. The first one was a forced change, as flamboyant batsman Jesse Ryder was unwell, and Jamie How was brought into the side for him.
The second change was to strengthen the batting line-up, as star all-rounder Jacob Oram was drafted into the side for youngster Hamish Bennett. Oram hasn’t been in the best of form since his return from injury, but the veteran player will be a key player
for his team today.
On the other hand, Pakistan also made two changes to their team. The team went back to veteran fast bowler was also brought into the team in place of wily off-spinner Saeed
Ajmal. Pakistan definitely have the upper hand against the Kiwi team in terms of World Cup matches. The Men-in-Green have won six out of the seven matches played between the two nations in the tournament.
The ongoing World Cup has also been good for, as they are the only undefeated team in the tournament so far. They will be looking forward to win this match and continue their good run.
On the other hand, will be looking to end the winning run of the unpredictable Pakistan side. However, they will have to post a decent total in order to win today.
