Question:

My telephone (landline) always rings at 11pm?

The phone always rings once, the call is not recorded on 1471. I have contacted BT and they say there is no fault on the line. I have a Tesco's homebrand twin handset and Sky Broadband.

Has anyone had a similar experience or can anyone offer an explanation?

  1. telemarketers use a calling machine and your # is probably programmed into one of them for the call to come at the same time everyday...go to donotcall.gov and put your # on the "do not call" list and hopefully you'll get rid of this...

    Good Luck..

  2. There are really quite a lot of reasons why this could be occurring - some of the other answers have them.

If it isn't a serious problem - no threats, etc...can you just turn off the ringer in the room where you are trying to sleep (if that is the problem)....?

Does it ring more than once?  That is important to know in answering this too - I mean does it ring and ring until you pick up?

I have never had this happen on any exact time reocurring basis...hmmmmm.

  3. cant bt block any calls that 'withheld number?'

  4. rake it roff the ringer

  5. yeah its bt, they suck.

  6. All of these answers are possible...and also whats most likely it is that some phone co. will run tests on their customers line every night to make sure its working okay. I didnt know they still did that, but ive also heard stories of it still happening. Hope it helps!! Oh and try to see where the number coming from, then call the phone co and they will see who it belongs to. They will try to contact them and get you off of the autodialer if thats the case. Ive done it for many of my customers!

  7. It does sound like BT are running the Line Test System on your 'phone but EVERY night ?!! Doubt full.

Could be your BB supplier 'pinging' your line for some reason......Change your handsets, this will cure it.

Test Systems do not leave a number on 1471.

  8. If there's no message then it's probably an automatic dialer that has your number by mistake. I think you need to stamp your feet a bit harder at BT and tell them to sort it out.

  9. Could be an automated remote site dialup system that's been programmed with the wrong number.   I have personal experience of this - from the other end.   BT gave me the wrong number, and I punched it into the computer that did the daily remote site dial - we were calling about 130 unmanned sites then.   Some systems dial thousands of sites nightly - electricity, gas, water and telephone companies, for example.   Turned out that this wrong number I got was a domestic line - it took the poor woman weeks to get BT to trace what was happening.

  10. Hope you get it fixed sounds like something from the exorcism of Emily rose (the movie)..

Try reading your phone manual is there a software setup to allow notification reminders.

Try pursuing it harder with your service provider they will be able to find and trace it (malicious or auto dialler) - it does sound more like an auto dialler though.

  11. Probably one of those d**n cold calling machines. I have had it where you answer but noone is on other end. Nowt you can do, other than try getting fully itemised phone bill/records.

  12. BT do an automated line test over night. This will involve disconnecting an idle line for a couple of seconds, which might be enough to cause some phones to ring.

  13. There is some company out there that has auto-dial set up for 11pm - maybe to send a fax.  Unfortunately they have the wrong phone number programmed.  Doies caller id show up?

    -MM

  14. It happened to me a long time ago, just a single ring. The explanation I was given is that line testers work automatically and they were triggering something in my phone. It stopped happening when I replaced the phone. So try changing the phone.
