http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mudassar-Nazar-c77867 slams Pakistan’s defensive approach – Cricket News Update
Former Pakistani opening batsman, Mudassar Nazar, has slammed the Pakistan team for playing defensive cricket in the first Test match against Sri Lanka at Abu Dhabi and felt that it was a great chance for the Green Shirts to have taken a 1-0 lead in the
series.
Pakistan bowled out the Islanders for only 197 runs on the opening day of the match and majority of the cricket analysts expected Pakistan to control the game from then onwards.
The Green Shirts batted well in their first innings and piled up a huge score of 511 runs for the loss of only six wickets and declared the innings. However, Pakistan batted slowly and failed to increase the pace of the innings with the passage of time,
especially on day three of the match, when they were looking to declare the innings.
Mudassar praised the performance of the Sri Lankan team with the bat in the second innings of the match, but said that there was nothing in it for the bowlers throughout the match. Former opener believes that Pakistani bowlers bowled exceptionally well on
the opening day of the Test.
He said, "Sri Lanka put up a very stiff fight in the second innings, the pitch hadn't done anything, even in the first innings, it was just the quality of the bowlers who pushed them into it. It was a very good pitch to bat on."
Mudassar feels that Pakistan should have batted with more intent because the pitch was flat and they should have taken a much bigger lead as compared to what they ended up with.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 put up a huge total - could have been better if they had pushed the game a little bit - they sat back a little bit, thinking all they needed to do was to just bat for two days and let Sri Lanka come in and defy them for two days,” Mudassar added.
The second Test of the series is going to start from October 26, 2011, at Dubai, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 will surely go in that match with a much better frame of mind after holding Pakistan to a draw in the first match.
