Richard Farrelly continues sharing details of the up-coming shooter and allays fears of Warfighter being similar to Battlefield 3.
After talking, in some detail, about the authentic Tier 1 Operative feel that Danger Close is looking to deliver with Medal of Honor: Warfighter, it is now time for one to turn their attention to other matters.
One of the major criticisms that the first reboot of the Medal of Honor series received was that it was too similar to EA’s other modern-military shooter, Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The single-player was different, there is no doubt about that, yet the
multiplayer was almost exactly the same as Bad Company 2’s.
The reason for that was because DICE was behind the multiplayer component of both games. Add in the fact that both Medal of Honor and Bad Company 2 were powered by the same FrostBite engine and one can see where all the frustration from gamers was coming
from.
This time around however, Danger Close and EA are looking to make sure that each game has its own unique feel and style. Richard Farrelly, the senior creative director at EA, explained that the authenticity and true-to-actual-events feel of Warfighter would
be the main differentiating factor.
“Also now with this Tier 1 position we have, we’ve kind of found a niche that we feel we can own in terms of depiction of the story of our guys, doing what they do, in a really authentic way, yet still having some delicious gunplay in there that’s fun.”
explained the senior creative director.
He also explained that this time around Danger Close would be developing the multiplayer component of the game as well, which would further help differentiate it from Battlefield 3.
“We thought it was cool to have the flavour of the two studios, but this time around we wanted to have one single vision, with one engine and one team working on it. It’s been a really cohesive experience.”
However, one has to be a bit sceptical as to how the multiplayer would differ seeing how both games are powered by the same engine and share a pretty similar setting as well.
