Maxim Sokolov tips Zenit St. Petersburg to win the Russian premier league title under Luciano Spalletti
SKA Saint Petersburg ice hockey goalkeeper, Maxim Sokolov, is of the opinion that Luciano Spalletti is the right man for Zenit St. Petersburg, reiterating his desire to see the Meshki retain the Russian Premier League title under
the Italian tactician.
The former HC Severstal custodian admitted that he takes out time to watch the Russian top division football and likes the St. Petersburg above all. Sokolov revealed that he went to see a match between Zenit and CSKA Moscow earlier
this season.
Sokolov, while summing up Zenit’s performances during the ongoing season admitted, that the Meshki were not composed during the first round but managed to regain their form in the early part of the second round.
Speaking on Spalletti’s work, he said:
“Spalletti suited the St. Petersburg club, I really like his coaching style. He has made the Russian outfit an organized team and it is a joy to watch them.”
Zenit had been trailing CSKA Moscow by seven points at the end of the first round. However, they managed to leapfrof the the Koni in the second round.

at home.
Sokolov went on to reveal that Zenit will take the revenge of their defeat in the upcoming Champions League clash against the Turkish club at home.
“It was very nice that the team has beaten a serious opponent. In fact, except for Apoel, Zenit’s Champions League results are satisfied. Though the result against Apoel was a serious disappointment, Zenit pleased the fans with
a magnificent victory over the Portuguese club.” The former Metallurg Novokuznetsk shot-stopper was quoted as saying.
Now left with two league fixtures to play, the Blue-White-Light blue are preparing for the upcoming league encounters against Anzhi Makhachkala and Lokomotiv Moscow.
