Malaga vs. Barcelona – Player Ratings
Malaga:
Willy Caballero – 6.0
The final score-line of 1-4 simply does not do justice to the Malaga goalkeeper’s performance during the night. He was able to keep out Lionel Messi on numerous occasions and even when his own defenders were sloppy at the back. He was also able to keep out
Andres Iniesta and Eric Abidal during the first half. However, he conceded four goals, which were not entirely his fault.
Jesus Gamez – 4.5
It was a night to forget for Jesus Gamez. Not only did he almost gift Messi with a goal, he was sloppy on numerous occasions. He found it hard to keep Adriano and Messi out and it looked as if he was under pressure most of the time. A wonderful save from
Caballero saved Gamez from embarrassment.
Martin Demichelis – 5.0
It was one of his worst performances in a Malaga shirt. The Argentinean centre back found it hard to contain his compatriot, Lionel Messi, throughout the night. Messi simply got the best out of Demichelis on a lot of occasions. The only save which he managed
to make was during the first half, when he kept out a pass from Lionel Messi and helped his side stop the threat posed by the Argentinean star.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joris-Mathijsen-c19242 – 4.5
In his defence, he was playing against one of the best teams in the world. Mathijsen seemed to be out of position. He was partnering Demichelis in the centre back role during the night. With a player like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 against him, he and Demichelis, both,
failed to impress http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Pellegrini and the Malaga fans.
Monreal – 6.0
He was probably the only defender in the Malaga line-up who at least tried to stop the threat posed by the Catalan Giants. He managed to keep http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Alves quite, but had to sacrifice his attacking ability of moving forward and helping his side with crossing
the ball into the box. He had to stick to his own half in order to help his side defend against the Brazilian full back , Daniel Alves.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Camacho-c8276 – 4.0
Barcelona dominated the midfield for most of the game. Camacho showed how he has been out of the first team for quite some time this season. He has rarely featured for Malaga and he was left chasing shadows as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adriano-c3773
ran the show in the centre of the pitch.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Santi-Cazorla-c32505 – 6.0
Cazorla tried his best to nullify the threat posed by the three Barcelona midfielders. However, with Pellegrini giving him a more defensive role, it was hard for him to win the ball against the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 midfielders. He seemed out of place a lot of times.
It was not one of his best performances for Malaga.
Enzo Maresca – 4.5
The Italian midfielder rarely got the ball. He lost possession time and time again and Barcelona were the ones who ran the show.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eliseu-c12315 – 6.0
He was one of Malaga’s best performers during the game. He played on the left flank and tried his best to get past Daniel Alves. However, the Brazilian full back was not only extraordinary defensively; in fact, he also posed a threat as he darted forward.
Isco – 6.0
He was also one of the players who came in the good books of the Malaga fans. He made it difficult for the Catalan defenders. He tried his luck on goal at least four times but Victor Valdes was able to deny him a goal.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ruud-van-Nistelrooy-c31966 – 4.0
It was one of the worst performances by the former Real Madrid striker. He showed that he is simply not the same prolific finisher he once was and his substitution during the 59th minute summed up his performance.
