Kirk Broadfoot drops out of Scotland squad
Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot has withdrawn from the Scottish squad that will face the Czech Republic and Spain due to a foot injury.
The Scottish Football Association is expected to make a statement regarding the right back’s injury, but they did confirm that the player has left the squad and returned to Rangers for treatment.
Broadfoot was forced to sit out his side’s 2-1 win against Hearts last weekend and the player is now ruled out of participating in the Euro 2012 qualifiers.
Scotland Manager Craig Levein will be concerned about the number of injuries that his squad have picked up and in particular the right back position.
Alan Hutton is also suffering from an injury and the extent of his injury is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected that it is just a knock and that the Spurs right back will be able to feature in the games.
Left back James McEveley and Blackpool goalkeeper Matthew Gilks are also carrying injuries while Levein believes that Gary Caldwell will not be able to feature in both games.
Levein said: "Players are being assessed at this moment. I can tell you Kirk Broadfoot will go back to his club. He has a foot problem and it is safest if he isn't involved.”
Broadfoot’s Rangers team-mate Lee McCulloch may also miss the games with a hip problem.
"Lee is another that I don't know about yet. Matt Gilks has a problem with a dead leg, Alan Hutton is a bit sore in his groin and Jay McEveley has a problem as well,” said Levein
"These are not serious injuries, but we will have to let the medical team do the work and then they can inform me what they think I should do,” added the Scotland manager.
The loss of Broadfoot will be a huge blow for Scotland particularly if fellow right back Hutton is ruled out of the matches well.
