Jupp Heynckes delighted with Bayern Munich’s defensive performance against Braunschweig
Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes has expressed his delight on progressing to the second round of the DFB Pokal after defeating 2.Bundesliga side Eintracht Braunschweig 3-0. The coach hailed his team’s defence and insisted that
Bayern will be a totally changed side when they start the season this weekend as compared to the last campaign.
Die Bayern won the clash which was played at the Eintracht Stadium in Braunschweig with Mario Gomez, and Thomas Muller amongst the goals for the away side.
The manager claimed that the new players will take their time to adjust in to the squad and insisted that he cannot push them forward. He added that it is natural for a player to take his time to adjust to the conditions and settle.
“You can push a process, but it's not the way I'd like it as it is optimal,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former Bayer Leverkusen boss hailed Jerome Boateng’s performance in the heart of defence. He praised the German international and was delighted that Bayern have finally improved on their defensive showings after a sorry season
last term which saw them finish in third place on the Bundesliga standings table..
Heynckes claimed that with the addition of Rafinha as right-back, the back four will be very strong and was hopeful of a great season ahead. He admitted that Bayern are surely not short of attacking options and the only problem
last season was that they leaked a lot of goals.
The coach remained confident that the problem will be solved with the additions of Boateng, Rafinha and
“I have worked with Jerome Boateng a much better feeling because we are thin on the defensive position occupied. With Rafinha we have an experienced player who will improve even further. The players understand what I want, but
there are only four weeks,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich have progressed to the second round of the DFB Pokal and their next opponent will be decided in a draw to be held on August 6.
