Joeri Verlinden occupies Men’s 100m butterfly gold: Day four – 2012 Netherlands Championships
Joeri Verlinden of E ON-NZA occupied gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly on concluding day of the 2012 Netherlands Swimming Championships in Amsterdam on Sunday, June 10.
Verlinden won the hearts of arena with his phenomenal form in the double lap discipline. He gained a comfortable lead over his opponents from the start and sprinted his way towards the wall for gold medal.
With his invincible efforts, he remained almost three body lengths faster from his strongest challenger and claimed gold medal by producing a time of 52.84 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by his team-member, Jens Bakker, who stayed nearly 2.20 seconds behind and reached the finishing end for silver medal by submitting a time of 55.07 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Mike Marissen of RTC Drachten, who stayed 0.31 seconds behind and proved his mettle for bronze medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 55.38 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Fabian Beimin of AZ&PC, who was only 0.20 seconds slower from overpowering the bronze medallist and clocked a timing of 55.58 seconds.
Beimin was traced by Tim van Deutekom of DWK, who stayed nearly 1.40 seconds apart and finished fifth in the event by producing a time of 56.91 seconds.
Deutekom was chased by Mark Baars of MNC Dordrecht, who stayed just 0.19 seconds away from upsetting his foregoing finisher. Baars remained nearly two strokes apart and clocked an effort of 57.10 seconds for sixth position.
His exhausting efforts remained hardly one stroke faster from Jeroen Stuut of TriVia, who suffered a deficit of 0.22 seconds and surfaced on the finishing end as seventh best finisher with the timing of 57.32 seconds.
Finally, eighth best spot of the race was secured by Niels van Basten Batenburg of ZC Valkenburg, who failed to surpass any of his competitors and made his way to the finishing end by posting a time of 57.40 seconds.
The session concluded after the completion of all listed events while the winners were called upon the medal rostrum for medals and accolades at the prize ceremony of the event.
