  1. SF to LA is a 3 - 5 day sail. Depending upon the weather and sea state, it can be lovely downhill run or the cruise from h**l.

There are virtually no safe harbors between Monterey and Morro Bay along the Big Sur coast and those waters have claimed some very experienced sailors. Pick a good weather window and go for it.

Read Brian Fagan's California Coast Cruising Guides.

  2. It took us 56 hours with a crew of six, average wind speed of 15-25 knots, and a 48-foot performance-cruiser sailboat. You should only attempt with an experienced crew on board, a well prepared boat, and a good understanding of the weather and sea conditions.

  3. It is about 350 miles so it will be a few days if you average 5 knots.  A lot will depend on wind and the current on the route you select.  It could be an easy sail all the way or it could be a nail biting trip from h**l.  Since you are asking this question my advice would be to drive.

  4. i would say it is if you know how to sail.  guessing about half a day.
