  1. I would personally recommend buying your laptop from a vendor like Lenovo, Toshiba, HP, Dell, etc.  Buying from these vendors insures your laptop works when you receive it, legal software, and technical support.  Buying stuff from eBay that you are not an expert on is risky IMO.

  2. You might try looking at used computer stores too if you are just looking for used computers.  Some Pawn shops handle them.  Used computers can run to about $100 to $200 or so maybe less.  Doesn't include the monitor.  Be sure to get a refurbished model.

WalMart has some for about $400.

E-Bay is alright but you take a chance sometimes.  It might be broken or stolen.

You did not say how old your son was so I am assuming that you are just looking for a beginners model.

Another source you might want to consider is let him build his own if he is handy at that kind of thing.  Computer stores sell motherboards, sound cards, graphic cards, cases, power systems, etc., etc.  Ask the sales people and techies for advise on those things.  You can just about build a computer in installments one part at a time.

  3. The best place is dell.

    Order online.

You can get quality at its cheapest price.

My whole family buys their laptops from there. (i am using one right now)

    There are always discounts etc.

    They are extremely reliable!

I go to high school, and it gives you everything you need.

    Go to:

If he's in school, he'll probably want an inspiron (me and my bro have one)

    Good luck!

  4. Apple refurbished

    Good price guaranteed

  5. the best place is costco or sam's club... because it has a really good policy on returns if it breaks and all the laptops there are very good . there are plenty of sales and bargains there. oh and pc's with intel processers (not AMD) are very good also

  6. Ebay can be an excellent source for a used laptop.  Make sure to check out the sellers feedback and take that into account.  There are several sellers who ONLY deal in used laptops (buying laptops coming off of leases etc.)  You will recognize these because they will have many of the same or similar models listed.

Almost all will say the battery is "untested" and not guaranteed to hold a charge... ASSUME the battery will NOT be good.  Likely it will hold some sort of a charge, but when you factor in the price of the laptop, assume you'll be purchasing a new battery for $75 to $200 depending on the model.

  7. go to shop see and buy it

  8. 1.Don't use Ebay.

    2.Don't get him a Dell.

    3.I wouldn't use Windows(crashed easily)sooo...

    4.Get him a Macbook.

  9. GO TO SHOP STORE THE BEST BID

PERSONALLY I DONT BUY USED STUFF

BUT IF I DO DOIT ON STRE VISUALLY INSPECT THE BEST THING GOOD LUCK  BUT ALSO I LOOK ON PRICE

NEW AT THIS PRICE AND ALSO SMALL ONES FOR 299

    CHECK THAT

  10. very safe, and some deals are good some not so good

  11. That depends entirely on what type of performance you are looking for and if you're planning on purchasing new or used. You'll have to look around on eBay to see what the prices are. The best thing to do is look around on eBay until you find a laptop that is in your price range, if the seller has a decent amount of positive feedback, then search for retail prices on the internet for that computer. If you think it's a good deal, and the seller is legitimate then buy.

If you're looking for a new laptop, I just recommend you buy from a trusted retailer like newegg.com, tigerdirect.com or bestbuy.com (or Apple if you want a mac) because the prices you'll find on eBay aren't going to be any better, and at least you know the retailers are legitimate.

  12. its Safe and sometimes its good deals but for few more dollars you can buy the same furbished from Dell or other manufactures site, its more reliable and parts has been replace ,with Ebay you just take a chance ,the price is not a big deal cause sometimes you can buy new laptop with great warranty and performance as new one from manufacture site,E bay stuff has at the most 30 days warranty and no help-desk ,anytime you want to send it anywhere you have to pay  for shipping ,if you compare I think manufactures give you better deal.
