... can they still become a member of the Cabinet? One of the reasons a former president cannot be vice president is they could be president again if something happened to the president. Could that also be true since the members of the Cabinet are also in line for the presidency if something should happen to the vp?

  1. In theory but a real long shot.  Presidency succession falls toThe Vice President d**k Cheney,

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi,

President pro tempore of the Senate Robert Byrd,

then finally to a cabniet position Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

  2. You could be correct in your assumption---but at this time it is not a settled fact----There is no precise wording to support your assumption and there could be a time when the SCOTUS would have to come to some conclusion or more legislation by the Congress or work on the Constitution.

  3. Yes they could, but they could not be in the continuity of government plan, which outlines the sucession if several politicians are killed/die suddenly.

  4. 3rd in line is speaker of the house. (pelosi, can you believe?)

so it would take a serious disaster to bring it that far down the line.  not sure cabinet members are even in successions.....

  5. A former President can serve in any appointed position in the Executive Branch. He can also serve as an elected member of the House or as an elected Senator. In addition, he could serve as an appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court or as Chief Justice of the United States. John Quincy Adams was elected to the House of Representatives after his term as President. Andrew Johnson was elected to the U.S. Senate. The same body which considered articles of impeachment against him that were proffered by the House. William Howard Taft served as Chief Justice of the United States after leaving the Presidency. He's the only one to head up two of the three branches of the Federal government in his lifetime.

Should an ex-President who is ineligible to serve as President again under the terms of the 22nd Amendment become a cabinet member, followed by the death of the President and Vice President along with all of the other cabinet members above him in the order of succession, that ex-President would be bypassed and the next senior cabinet official would be sworn in as President. The source below is a link to the Presidential Succession Act of 1947. Subparagraph (e) applies to your question.

  6. they make up their own rules as they go along. american presidents are not elected by democracy. they are just 'allowed' to make it look like they are running the country.that is just a smokescreen. the real rulers of the usa are the british monacy. sounds mad. i know, but read ...and the truth will set you free or any other book by david icke. its very hard to dismiss what he is saying with the vast amount of research he puts into his books.

  7. Yes, they can.  The only office they are barred from is the Presidency or the Vice-Presidency.  They can accept any cabinet offer if they choose, serve on the Supreme Court, or run for another office in their home state if they so choose.
