  1. I'm a carpet fitter, it took me 3 years before I was good enough to fit stairs. Trust me, stairs are the hardest areas to fit, your not going to have to spend too much getting it professionally fitted, so save yourself the headache. The average Hall stairs and landing will cost you £50 to have fitted. I was going to explain to you how to fit stairs, but I'd be writing all day, warning about cutting too much off or too little, e.t.c.. Stairs are cut to the precise width, everything is precise and theres no margin for error. A local carpet fitter you can find on checkatrade.com

  2. measure the width of the stairs....cut carpet 1/2 inch wider than the stairs....measure the rise( height of stair) and the tread width.....add 2 inches.....( if u have more than 1/2 inch noising on the tread add that to the 2 inches.....now u should have a single piece of carpet to work with....

center it on the stair....flush with the bottom staple the bottom in..push the carpet up tight to the top of the riser and staple it there....turn it over the top of the tread and push it to the back of the next riaiser......staple it there.....take a putty knife and hammer and push the sides of the carpet into the side of the skirt board.....use ur putty knife, 6" one, and use it with ur carpet knife to cut off the left over carpet at the top of the second raiser....repeat.....
