How and where do I get a psychology internship?

Since I'm majoring in psychology, I'd like to get an internship somewhere. My question is, how do I go about getting a job related to psychology? Most of of the jobs I've seen ask for minimum requirements such as a degree or previous work with psychology, neither of which I have because I am a student. Should I contact a university and see if maybe they have something?

  1. If you are obtaining a bachelors in Psychology.... you need to ask your dean or adviser which allowed you to declare your major.

Asking your professors is another great way to get referenced considering you may need a letter of recommendation in order to obtain an intern position.

Also if you are obtaining your bachelors you should have done some sort of interning before receiving it. Because even if you are educating yourself in a human service field - internship is part of the curriculum.

  2. I'm not sure if this is really what you're looking for but I worked at a camp for kids that had ADD/ADHD and reading disabilities.  Most of the counselors were Psychology majors and they all seemed to get a lot out of it.  So I suggest checking out some places like that.
