Hmm...Why are people still underestimating Forrest Griffin?

Why are people still saying that "so-in-so" will destroy Forrest Griffin if they ever fight?

Almost everybody, including members in my family, said that Forrest had zero chance against Rampage last night, and yet, Forrest proved everybody wrong. The same can be said with Shogun.

Shouldn't people be saying that Forrest VS "so-in-so" will be an interesting fight?

  1. please. "rampage didn't try hard enough" this is just a sore loser speaking, but whatever. forrest just isn't a real star fighter. he doesn't excel in anything like other fighters. people don't buy into big hearts and tough mentality. they like submission specialists and knockout artists. that's just how it is, and since forrest fits neither, he just isn't respected.

  2. Forrest Griffin shouldnt have won last night buddy.

  3. Why are people saying Rampage got screwed?

Rampage himself said: "Forrest whooped my a$$"

Rampage barely won the first and 3rd rounds, Forrest dominated the 2nd, 4th and 5th round.

The judges actually got this one right.

  4. I'm a big fan of Rampage and Forrest.  The fight last night was a win-win for me as a fan, but I really thought that Rampage won that fight.  Rampage is a better fighter than Forrest, and last night proved that anyone can win/lose on any given day.  Regardless, Rampage lost according to the judges.  I was glad to see that he just accepted the decision and didn't seem too bent out of shape about it.

As for the Shogun fight, I think that Forrest's win could be contested.  Shogun is one of the best fighters in the world, but he was injured going into that fight.  He had a torn ACL which prevented him from training among other things.  His cardio was not where it should have been, and his striking was not up to snuff.  If you take the Shogun that beat Rampage a few years ago and put him up against Forrest, Shogun beats him 99 times out of 100.

Like I said, I'm a big fan of Forrest because he leaves everything in the ring.  I will never bet on a Forrest fight because he will never give up.  Even if he's clearly out-skilled (like against Rampage or Shogun), you never know what he's going to pull out to try to end the fight.  So yes, Forrest will always give an interesting fight regardless of who his opponent is.  If nothing else, at least he's entertaining in pre-fight and post-fight interviews.

  5. forrest said it himself, he's not a feared fighter; he's a really good fighter, but doesn't excel in submissions or striking ability.

rampage is scary because he's got strking power and slams, while shogun has superior jujitsu.

but forrest is one of those guys that leaves it all in the cage every time. either catch him with something (like jardine did) or he'll work and wear you down like he did to everyone else he fought. you can't underestimate a guy like forrest.

  6. Cause that how people are they don't know what there talking about but yet they still have confidence in there answer.

  7. people said that about mayweather, ali, and marcianno. people like to see the best fall. its just how it is. some people are haters and some lovers. I love fighters as I m one and know that no fighter would ever disrespect another fight by saying the things that are being said

  8. I agree in so far as Forrest Vs anyone is an entertaining fight at the worst. He always  leaves everything out there in the ring, win or lose.

I wouldn't call it a matter of "underestimating". Rampage had simply been dominant in the UFC. Griffin lost to Jardine & Ortiz (both good in their own right) and Rampage had beaten Liddell & Henderson.

I personally didn't think for one second it was going to be a squash match. If anything Griffin's win over Rua (who beat Rampage) showed he was going to give Rampage a run for his money. Rampage is a great fighter but he's been stopped in the 1st rd by both Silva & Rua as well as the 2nd by Silva in a 2nd match. So anyone who wouldn't respect Griffin coming into a match is making a big mistake.

I had the fight 48-47 Griffin but was fully expecting a split decision. I have to admit that while the correct fighter won I was suprised to see a unanimous decision by a larger than 1 round margin.

We'll see who win the rematch & subsequently how long Griffin can hold the belt. I think he is a great fighter but the talent in the Light Hvy division is so deep anyone could beat anyone (styles make match ups).

  9. because the world is full of stupid people. Forrest was the clear winner. Anyone who thinks different must have just started watching mma.. HEY PEOPLE RAMPAGE SAID HIMSELF HE GOT HIS *** KICKED!!!!!!

  10. yeah Forrest is a work horse.  He never stops going and fights his *** off every fight.  I don't care how hard you might catch him upside his head, if he is even semi-conscious he will keep fighting like nothing happened.

"Why are people still saying that "so-in-so" will destroy Forrest Griffin if they ever fight"

Personally i don't know, But i do know that of forrest keeps improving like he has people will be running out of names to throw at Forrest.

  11. I'm a huge Rampage Fan and I will admit I gave Forrest a pretty big chance, I'm not gonna lie Rampage should of tried a lot harder, any REAL Rampage fan could tell that wasn't him, Since working with Juanito Ibarra hes trying to hard to stand up and Strike. I personally loved it when fighters were on the ground and he'd give them a good ol' kick to the face or chest. I believe Forrest did fairly well I thought that Rampage was gonna be the winner, I think Forrest really won Rounds 2 and 5, But thats just me.

Hope my views helps others and the Asker.
