1. bikes desigh determined that when x hunderd bikes are built the average cost per bike is given by c(x)=0.8x^2 -0.8x+8.323 c(x) is in hundreds of dollars how many bikes should the shop build to minimize the average cost?

  1. 1. c(x)=0.8x^2 -0.8x+8.323.

    x^2 - x + 10.4375            {this is a quaratic in x}

    x = 1/2 (+/-) sqrt[1/4 - 10.4375]

    = 1/2 (+/-) i3.1917

    This is not a practical solution with an imaginary component.



    2. f(x) = y = 2x^2 - 12x + 25

    y = 2x^2 - 12x + 25 = 2[(x - 3)^2 - 7/2]

    y/2 + 7/2 = (x -3)^2

    Vertex is where

    y/2 + 7/2 =0  =>y =7

    x - 3 =0  =>x =3


  2. graph it and find your minimum. That is the answer.
